Exploring IoT Sensors for Fire Prevention in the USA: Protecting Homes from Fires

Home insurance provider State Farm is providing homeowners with more fire sensor technology options by installing plug-in “Ting” sensors in two million houses.

The Ting sensor, developed by Whisker Labs, is intended to keep an eye out for arcing, which occurs when an electric current leaps between two electrodes and is a common cause of house fires.

Additionally, the plug-in sensor can alert households to potentially dangerous utility power mishaps or power outages.

Chris Schell, COO of State Farm, stated, “Ting is part of our ongoing commitment to prevent losses and protect more people in more ways.” “It is incredibly powerful to hear from our customers about how Ting has assisted them in protecting their homes and families.” Expanding the program to include even more homes makes sense.
